What we do is instead of getting 100+ little candies, we just get 60 or so big bars. You'll be the favorite house and you only have to give one to each kid.
If you're thinking of types, then the best option would be something like skittles and M&M's as well as tootsie rolls. This is for the sweets lovers and the chocolate lovers. Don't give out anything cinnimon or hot or anything like gum or peanuts. Some children can't have too chewy foods like gum or jolly ranchers because of baby teeth and braces. Peanuts are becoming a common food allergy as well.
Besides... who doesn't love a mini Hershey chocolate bar?

Skittles, Kit Kat bars, Receess Peices, uhh.. some mints, M&M's, and all those gummy worms, some sour gummy worms and that's all.

me and my kids love the older candy... like Boston baked beans,bottle caps,lemon heads,cherry Chan's...
try orientaltrading.com they have a bunch of candy that you can buy in bulk...
