im studying for SAT subject test: world history for December 2nd this year.
i suck at memorizing.
i highlight important facts and sometimes write them on my post-its.
and i've been procrastinating for the last 9 weeks.
i've studied over the summer, but it raised me upto 700pts...
but i need to get 800!
can you give me tips on perfecting my world history knowledge and not procrastinating?

um, there are some good tips like:
- visualizing
- making weird songs and stuff (which works for me)
- coming up with humorous pneumonics
- breaking it into chunks so you don't confuse dates
- people association (find one interesting fact about them, so you'll remember (and want to) everything else)
- word association
- coming up with rhymes.
Oh, and there's always writing like an outline or something, and then just going over it by yourself, and then with your friends (which makes learning it VERY interesting). So yeah, that's all i can really give ya.
Just sit down and learn/review it. And don't cram the night before. You won't remember anything that way. So, as for procrastinating, practice not doing it, and use a reward system type thing, which is always great motivation (ie: for 30 minutes of reviewing or doing homework or studying, you get to im or email or something for 10 minutes). and break it up! you won't learn anything when you're wishing you're somewhere else!

Read your facts. Type the important ones and print them out. Then write each fact by hand 30 times. Then test your memorization. If you didn't remember the fact, write it 30 more times. The repetition will help drill it into your brain and the hand writing will make sure that you're actually paying attention to your memorizing. This is how I studied for the AP Biology test and I got a 4 out of 5.

Depends on the details, you're trying to memorize. But if you high lighted any details, read them to yourself, until you can say them to youself, with out reading them. Then just say them to yourself and check the high lighted words, just to be sure. Or in the case of your licence plate, create a possible translation for the letters and some how combine the numbers with that translation. But remember, everything takes time, and some questions don't require memorizing. That's the way it is with the Civil Service Test, anyway.

After you have studied the material, make a chart with just the first letter of each word. Then try to read the material by using just the first letters.
This is how the Soap actors memorize for there everyday parts.

Put it all into the form of a song that you like.... Change the words to the tune of your favorite song... that should help you remember. Or put it in the form of a story instead of thinking of it as "FACTS AND FIGURES."

You have more than a month until your test - you should be able to cram at least SOME of that into your brain.

yeah flash cards are good but what I do is read the fact over and over again. Then i repeat it to myself. Sometimes the day of the test I glance at it again to refresh my memory. Good Luck

I found the best way is to keep writing stuff over and over.

One thing you can do to help yourself and you probally know is to do your material out loud with confidence.
