the doctors say wine is not so harmful as liquor. drinking liquor on an empty stomach is bad 4 u as u will not only get drunker faster but the toxins will get to ur liver and kidneys easier. MY husband drinks 1 glass of wine before dinner and 1 with and 1 after and he's 60 and as healthy as a horse. every thing in moderation.

OK....all alcohol that goes into your system on empty stomach or full will affect your liver. In fact, everything you put in your body affects your liver. So the next issue is absorption: on an empty stomach, you will get drunk quicker. Absorption of alcohol will begin in your mouth and continue to be sucked up like a sponge in your stomach before it ever gets to your intestines. The main concern should be the lining of your stomach and esophagus. Alcohol can be irritating to the lining and erode the linings. This is not pleasant. To avoid it, eat something before you go out drinking. Watering it down might help (and keep you hydrated) but not as much as food. Hope that helps. Godloveya.

alcohol dehydrates the whole body ..and is a toxin. that's why you get drunk.
food lines the stomach and delays and blocks some absorption.
some studies say one glass is good as effects on heart stress outweigh the toxic effects but also say 2 or more is bad.
its also good to drink lots of juices or water to rehydrate and dilute. since it also kills vitamins c an b and wreaks havoc on your blood sugar. (biggest cause of hangover)
any mitigation is good.

but single glass of red wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
is my fave also ...adds iron and other substances so with a nice bowl of pasta one never hurt anyone.

also see below for corrections to my old info in some of the current studies.
