In my case it was more like waking up with a really bad headache and thinking, "omg, what did I do with a drunken sailor?"

First you would need to call the "officer on watch" on his ship and explain why he is AWOL. They put his parrot, his hook arm , peg leg up in a safe place with his glass eye and eye patch.
Later on you might take him with you to your AA meetings.
