My friends say your can't like everyone and everyone can't like you. What do you think?

I agree with your friend. I believe that one person cannot like everyone. How is one person going to meet EVERYONE in the world? But one person CAN be nice to everyone he or she meets. Even if one doesn't like a particular individual, even if one just doesn't seem to get along with someone else, everyone deserves kindness. :]

It isn't wrong, it just isn't safe. Would you really want to befriend a sexual predator, for example?

There is a proverb that (roughly translated) which states that "a person with a thousand friends has not a friend to spare, but a person with an enemy will meet him everywhere". So my personal philosophy is to cultivate friendships, but ignore those who I do not believe are safe or who make the dubious choice to be overly judgemental idiots and choose not to accept my friendship in the mean time.

Real fact is that a person probably has a few "best friends" in the course of their life, many "good friends", and the rest (realistically) are acquaintances, that is, people we can be friendly with but that we don't spend as much time with as the "good friends".

Cultivate good friendships by being a good friend to those who return the quality experiences. By kind to the rest, and in general you will do okay.
