I don't think it's funny when there's something seriously wrong with your mom or my mom or anyone's mom. I mean when you ask someone if they've had lunch yet and they say "I heard your mom had lunch with me last night". That kinda thing.

yeah there are alot of situations where insulting someones mom is not funny...like finding out your mom has cancer
