My brother in law is a Gospel singer and he also makes cds professional quality stuff for people but the time and money spent in a recording studio is taking all his time and money. His dream is to have a recording studio in his own home so he can do everything in his house. He is very good at his work and I would like to build him this studio. the problem is I have no idea how to do this or where to start. He has all the electronics I just need to know how to build the booth part. I already have a room picked out. What is the next step?

he already has all the software needed including the best and up to date programs. he has spent thousands of dollars on the software. He just wants a booth so bands and groups can record the voice tracks with top clarity.

Try this...build an independent floor structure, much like a deck set it on posts made up of "hockey pucks" 6 high @ 4 locations , the least locations the better, this will isolate the structure you will build from vibration, next build wall sections using 2"X6" wall plates with 2" X 3" studs staggered @ 2' o.c., this will apear like 1' o.c. with 1 stud on one side of 2" X 6" plate and the other stud on the opposite side of plate, basket weave the studs with aluminum foil this will help take the sound wave to the corners of the structure and to the wall plates, not into booth! next apply drywall to both sides of wall section, then apply resonance bar "called resilient bar at your local drywall store" follow instructions and apply 2nd. layer of drywall tape joints on first layer of drywall with 2" masking tape min. and finish second layer as per regular drywall practices. Under the drywall on the interior apply sonoboard " a green coloured ten test like sound board" after the 2nd layer of drywall is attached on the inside cover the entire wall with glued on hockey pucks. build a roof-ceiling the same way, double door, and double thermopane window keep to min. size. remember to build 4 walls , 1 roof, and 1 floor this will be cube like and independent structure, a 4' X 8' floor will yeild a 34" X 94" room with ceiiling height to suit your situation, it need not be more then 80", i'm not sure if additional Roxul insulation in wall cavities would be desirable, the resilient bars should be 16" o.c. ( on center) If you need more info try posting again...or see if you can contact me at: disota2003@msn.com I suggested drywall because it is inexpensive maybe the sonoboard could be used in all instances, hope you get more responses good luck...

basically all you need to do is build a little cubicle of foam - take a giant piece of wood board and cover it with foam on both sides. make the board/foam tall enough so that it forms a high wall between the person inside and the electronics and sound board outside. then cut a window in the board/foam. also make sure you have a door made of the board/foam. voila!

You don't need ANY of that. I make awesome quality CD's of my band using software for the computer called Sonar 5. It's all digital and I guarantee it does more than his will!
