I have an old laptop, probably windows 2000. Will it work with this Dell machine? What do I need to do, purchase and how much?

In most cases TV reception is accomplished by a TV tuner card, like the ATI TV wonder or Hauupage WinTV. It's easier for desktops since the majority of tuner cards fit into a PCI slot- but there are a few external USB models you could connect to your laptop.

Then connect the cable output to your TV tuner device (the same as connecting it to your TV or VCR)

First things first; does your laptop have a USB port? don't know?
The USB (or Universal Serial Bus) is a rectangular slot, its about 3 or 4mm in height, and about 1.5 - 2cm length. If your not sure have a look at your user manual.

If the answer is "yes" then you CAN easily acquire a TV solution for your laptop.

Something like the "Compro VideoMate U3 Stick Digital TV Tuner" will do you just fine. If you live in the UK (as I do) then you can buy one from http://www.overclockers.co.uk for about £25.

If you live outside the UK look for a "USB PC TV tuner".

Hope this helps.
