Even if you go into the Add / Remove Programs and go into Add / Remove Windows Components and choose to "remove" Internet Explorer... it doesn't remove it.
What it does is it takes the associations of web pages and other things like that away from Internet Explorer. Basically it grounds Internet Explorer from playing. It's still there, as it's "part" of Windows - Windows Explorer is Internet Explorer with a different look.
What do you use to connect to the internet? AOL? Yahoo? or a normal internet connection like ADSL or cable?
Congrats on the wise move to Firefox - take a look around on the add-ons (extentions) site, there are some very awesome add-ons for Firefox

When you open Firefox you should get some sort of message asking if you want to make Firefox your default internet browser. Click yes. If not look on the firefox options for the checkbox with the same question.

You have to what they said set Firefox as your default browser, but if you for example open MSN Messenger and go to your e-mail from there, Internet Explorer will open instead of Firefox and that , I am afraid you can not change, I tried, but it is normal just because MSN is Microsoft too. I would not delete Internet explorer files just because if you desire to play some games online, some of them just run on Internet Explorer.

Hello, You go to Internet explorer, click on tools, go to options, then
clear IE from your default. Close, open Firefox , tools, options, then set Firefox as default, But remember to set Firefox to your ISP homepage. I use attyahoo, You set Fox to your internet homepage, then you go to add/remove programs and destroy/remove the Internet Explorer. Mozill Firefox as your homepage, and e-mail page
will work Excellent!! Also Add the TRACK-ME-NOT program from the Firefox.com. Oh, export your bookmarks to Firefox! Luck, and welcome to the World W/O Bill GAtes. Stop the Windows Updates, and Get the new Java . Let me know if I can help anymore! Peace,Angel

Go into the registry and delete some of it's drivers, then it will be permenently crippled, but it will still be on your computer. Or go into program files, and delete a thing or two, again, it will be useless.
Really though, I was kidding, don't do either of those, chances are, if you don't know how to get to the registry editor, then you will kill your computer if you ever got into the registry.
BTW, hit the windows key, and the press "r", and then in the run window, type "regedit" and you can have a whole days worth of fun killing your computer with just a few clicks.
