you can open a savings account at any age. you can open a checking account when you're 16 and get a debit card when you're 18. if you're under 16 and want to open a checking account, you need to have it joint with one of your parents. they don't have to have their name on your checks, but they do have to be a signer on your account. my brother opened one when he was 14 or 15 with our mom on there...i opened one when i was 16 i think and had my mom on there with me. she never wrote any checks, but she would make deposits and check my balance for me when i was at college.

Choose a bank or two you're interested in, and then ask them this question. I would think you could open an account at a fairly young age. The question will be how much you would have to have saved to open an account, I'd think.

When i was 13 i worked during the summer under a school program at our school and the lady that was over us helped us get our own savings account. I am not sure about a regular bank account though.
