We took up the carpeting in our condo and have concrete underneath. We want to do a faux paint finish on the concrete but it has some paint overspray, adhesive and several cracks in it. What steps are necessary before I paint; what type of paint would I use and what type of clear finish would i use after painting?

I agree. I think the concrete floor is even a neat look! We have hardwood and tile all throughout our bottom floor. I don't understand these people talking about the floor being too hard. Is that serious? My daughter is completely content with playing on the hardwood, I don't think it is much softer than concrete. I think the area rug would do great too. I think I would have to agree. When my Pomeranian was little, she too peed on the floor. I have to tell you, the only way I broke her was by crate training her. I had heard this suggestion a hundred times, but knew it wouldn't work with my dog. I finally resorted to it and it worked like a charm! She didn't want puppy pads, she would go outside, forget to pee and walk in a pee... as soon as I started the crate, it worked perfectly. She is only in it when I am not home. When I am home, I let her out ever three hours and I put a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs, so if she gets any sudden urges, she won't pee where I don't find it. I disagree with the idea that they will pee on the concrete because it may smell of their urine. If you clean the concrete, it should be fine and not smell of anything. I can assure you that the urine did not 'soak' into the concrete. lol Hardwood will stain with dog urine, sealed or not, you will get spots that you will never be able to get out. I wish you luck! ps. shampooing the carpets will NEVER get the urine out of the padding underneath the carpet. I tell you, the day you do pull that carpet up, you will see. The whole house will smell of urine and you will see the urine spots all throughout the padding, the spots that the carpet shampoo just covered up.

If the floor is concrete, paint will look cheap. Put some real ceramic tiles on it. They will look beautiful and you can then use patch carpeting, or leave it bare.
