The size of nails would have had to have been long enough to reach through the flesh and adhere to the wood. The hammer used was actually a mallet, consistent with the hammers used in that time period of history.

Hammer is just a hammer....it's more like trying on a pair of gloves.....which one feels better in your hand....but...the tool is just a tool...the ability to use that tool makes it work the best...just remember the bigger the hammer dosen't mean you have more power...it is all in the snap of the wrist while using it.....I use a cheap 16 oz hammer and can out hammer most

I agree with most of your answers that Estwing is rated among the best , but they are expensive, I suggest that you look for a hammer made by TENG TOOLS they come in various weights and are a quality tool.

Tough to beat "ESTWING" brand hammers. They are a bit pricey but man they are a good feeling long lasting hammer. All of the makes. Good luck with the one you finally decied on.

Estwing (pronounced east wing). When i done carpentry work thats all i ever used. Great hammer with soft rubber grip and steel shaft. Practically indestructable.
