It depends on where, exactly, in America you're talking about. (American is really big and varied.)
I live across the bay from San Francisco, which is pretty ethnically diverse.
There's Pizza, American food, Mexican, Thai, Japanese, and Chinese within a couple of blocks of my house. I'd have to go a little further to get French, Italian, Soul food, or Indian (to mention just a few).
And where I live doesn't have that many resturants!
Classic American? Oh, fried chicken, hamburgers, steak, and pot roast spring to mind.
What foods do I cook? Stroganoff, Spaghetti, tacos, chicken, meat loaf are all pretty common for me.
"Chop Suey. Chop Suey. Living here is very much like chop suey. ... Boston, Austin, Wichita, and St. Louis." ... sorry, but my list brought a song from an old musical to mind.

It's American Indian, not Native American. They are called Indian Reservations, not Native Reservations. Navajo Indians had fry bread and what came to be known as succotash. Yes, and all of the animals. It is a footnote in history that the potato chip was made in a NY hotel by a chef who happened to be an Indian. So, technically, potato chips are Indian food, too!

I live right in the middle of the US (Kansas) and basically we're a "meat and potatoes" place to eat, although in our large cities you can eat anything from anywhere. We have major universities in these large cities and, as a result, many people from many different countries have come here to work in the universities and the support groups (medicine, etc.) that go along with them. Naturally they want to have food from their own country to eat most of the time, and we Kansans have become admirers of many different types of food, too. We also fly all over the world (just as your countrymen/women do) and most of us eat what is a favorite in that country....you're making me hungry for a Thai meal tonight!

A Nice T-Bone steak Broiled covered with Sauteed' Mushrooms and Shrimp and topped with Mozelle cheese over it. Gotta try it.

Cheeseburger...I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes. Big koser pickle and a cold draft beer. I like Jimmy Buffett. But I like my burgers with Kraft mayo, too. Ain't a burger without the mayo.

oh wow...theres a lot ..with all nationalities in america there are a lot of different foods you can eat!since im hispanc i like to eat my puerto rican food.lol you can eat pork, chicken , beef, roasted pork(pernil),steak..and not only hispanic people make this food soo.. america is great when it comes to food...mmmmmm
