The most ignorant thing and dangerous thing in the world is to have an opinion without knowing the facts - so please note:

1.Why can’t we do it now? – quite simply, there is no Saturn V rocket and there is no lunar lander (LEM). It needed the phenomenal power of this giant 360 foot rocket to get a manned probe beyond Earth’s orbit, and it needed the ultra-lightweight but immensely high-tech LEM to land on the moon. Both machines were multi-billion dollar developments. Both are no more.
2.What happened to the Apollo? – read the history. Americans were wholly caught up in the Vietnam war, with massive and violent demonstrations going on. People saw the space program as a huge waste of money when there were so many social and international problems to attend to.
3.Apollos 18-20 were cancelled because of lack of taxpayer interest. There were plans to take along a small “flyer”, so astronauts could get around quicker.

4.There would be no use for the Saturn V booster any more. It is not needed for putting men and women in orbit, or for sending relatively light unmanned probes to the planets.
5.If all the conspiracy lovers knew more about the space program, they would realise how much more expensive it is to send humans into space. We can soft-land robotic probes on Mars and Venus and even Saturn’s moon Titan, for a fraction of the cost of sending men to the moon.

Please read the history all you people who deny the moon landings. It is just the absolute height of ignorance to have an opinion on this without knowing the history.

Also, your uninformed opinion is a gross insult to all those who worked tirelessly to make happen the most fanstastic voyage of discovery ever.

To quote from the StarTrek Ferengi motto, "There was no profit in it." Pure science can be terribly boring and that was what happened. The Apollo series was truncated from a lack of ratings, NASA was wanting to feed more film than the networks and magazines were wanting to use. We had diversions, expensive diversions, such as a Cold War and the conclusion of a hot little war in Vietnam, as well as a welfare state experiment--we would rather pay poor people to be poor than pay scientists, engineers, and inventors to push the technological limits of the day. It gave a quantum leap in technological development that produced uncountable jobs and new products.

Careful and methodical exploration was about as exciting as watching grass grow after the initial hurdles were passed. The same thing today, we can't only because "There's no profit in it."

Gerard O'Neil envisioned cities in space built from materials dredged off of the moon. They were going to build power plants to beam electricity to earth. We could have largely stopped using fossil fuels for industrial and transportation power. In that case the power companies would have footed the bill, but environmentalists were afraid some receiving antenna array in the western American deserts would have disturbed the habitat of some obscure rodent, or the beams would have fried too many buzzards. In that case there was the potential for profit, until they had to figure in the cost of lawyers or lobbyists to change the laws.

The most dangerous thing on earth is to have opinions and beliefs without knowing the facts . simply ignoranceis the mostdangerous thing. And it is all religion is . and has proved to be in the world . Scientific reaerach is shaking the foundation of miracles in religons on which alone the blind faith and beliefs have been built upon. religons which are meant for the welfare of humans and would like to faster the knowledge and wisdom of people won't be aginst sciece or research . only such of the religins which want to have a tight hold on people on the only and sole ground of folly and ignorance woud continue to ppose the development of knowledge ., mainly because they are managed by persons who are genarally poor in scientific knowledge and and could not answer logical and scietific questions
on the basis of the religious scriptures they depend on for thier survival and they adminster .Niether are they willing to change and improve nor or they willing to allow people to change for the better .So the religions are always carrying on a loosing battle and they are determined to remain so ever and destroy peace in the world .
The expenditure on space researches was not in vain and it has widened the knowledge of thehumans who have been bound to ignorance by religions for millions of years. knowledge is the highest wealth that ht ehumans can ever really aquire and the religons are quite inimical tothe humans attaining any knowledge . For the religous institutions it is not knowledge but material waelth that is important ans so desires to keep people deeply immersed in total ignorance deveoid of any scientific wisdom .So many and most of the religions are opposed to wisdom . only a very few religions identify God himself as the embodiment of the highest wisdom and knowledge and they have very little following .
Since the religons still have a tight hold on the people and are able to divert thier attentioin to material wealth , the expenditure on aquisition of knowledge is considered by the misguided people as a waste of tax payer's money . it is infact the payment of thithes that is the waste of public funds as it is creating rivalry among religions , fastering terrorism and destruction of peace among the nations of the world .
People pretending to be in the service of god are fastering ignorance , animosity and destruction , sexual perversion and devastatioin of morality and character among the people .
Any expenditure on the expansion of the boundaries of knowledge and wisom is good for th epeople and it will never go waste .It is only religons that is afraid of humans expanding their scientific and logical wisdom and knowledge.
It is the same world that made fun of all the inventions right from electricity . despite the fact it is enjoying the fruits of the labour of the great inventors , including the churches and the priests , in thier day to day life , they continue to condemn the expansion of knowledge in a most ungrateful manner , soley out of the fear that the foundation of miralces on which alone they stand will be shaken .

Not sure? im assuming we dont have competition anymore... back in the day we did it mostly for competition.
i guess going to the moon isnt worth the investment when we have other issues to worry about.
