People often want help in deciding what to do regarding relationships, child care, pets, etc. I do my best to answer these types of questions with honest mature answers though it may sometimes seem like 'tough love'. Do you think people tend to go with advice even though it may not be what they want to hear?

I hope that most people will take the advice given as information and then make a decision that is best for themselves. Sometimes people already know what they should do about a given situation and just need some feedback.

In some questions, I have actually learned things that I didn't know or have heard suggestions of things that are different than what I know. Some people on Y!A are very smart, caring, and have good advice to share. I like the people that answer questions in a "honest mature" way.

Months ago, I answered many questions from a girl I swear had Borderline Personality Disorder. She was constantly suicidal and depressed and always refused help. So, of course, my answers to her questions were often, "You need to stop blaming others, stop making excuses, and get some help. Talking to people on the internet will not fix your problems. You need professional help." And every night, there would be another "I'm going to kill myself" question, with an excuse as to why she couldn't get psychological help. I knew she wasn't taking anyone's advice. I finally realized I was reinforcing her attention seeking and stopped answering. I was spinning my wheels.

I find that a lot of people on Answers are just looking for what they want to hear or an opinion that reinstates their own beliefs.

I think people listen to the advice and think about it or consider it, but chosing to follow that advice is up to the person. Most people (I work as a school psychologist) won't follow advice until they are ready to do so. Until then, they will keep making the same mistakes. The person giving advice should just be there for support and be ready for when that person takes the advice.

I think alot of people ignore advice on here and more are helped with real information or helpful hints, but, not advice. Since some can't even be bothered to choose a best answer themselves, what does that tell you?

I wouldn't answer any question in this forum if I figured they were going to ignore the advice given.

Many people ask legit questions and expect legit answers. A lot of people ask stupid questions and either wait for their friends to answer of simply forget the question and allow the voters to pick an answer. I find that a short and impersonal answer usually works wonders vs. long and detailed answers.

If nothing else, it may cause them to pause and think about the next step. Maybe, it will help them to grow in the future.

I have only my own punctuation to infer this: I do not think anyone take my advices, unfortunately.
And YOU, take my advice: do not try to care about this; please help people without congratulatory intention.
