There are several things that i will look into...from my past 30 yrs of experiences:

1) Location - are there any sandy beaches? (love clean sandy beaches...)

2) Security - is it safe to go out alone? (esp. at night)

3) Season - is it monsoon season? (hurricanes, rains, typhoons can spoilt my vacation....)

4) Activities - what can i do there? (pubs, snorkeling, fishing, jet skiing..)

5) Culture - Is there interesting places of interest?

6) Food - What is nice to eat there? (authentic local dishes..)

7) Budget - What is my budget to spent there? (big budget means better places & more fun...)

Places I've visited as a lonely male:
a) Langkawi - Malaysia

b) Phuket - Thailand

c) Sentosa - Singapore (not really vacation cos' i live here)

d) Monti Carlo / Nice - France

e) Lam Ah Island - Hong Kong

f) Phillip Island - Australia

g) Peng Hu - Taiwan

h) Qingdao - China

i) Batam - Indonesia

Yes...Kiribati, Christmas Islands....looks like a nice place to visit...hope to go there some day...

Cheers...

Most important > time of year - AVOID hurricane season.
South Thailand (Phuket, Krabi etc) has clear warm water, affordable lodging and excellent food. The locals are the most friendly and the country is very calm & peaceful.
(super rainy however, from April thru October)

Beaches, Bikinis, cheaper expenses, and lesser Caucasians.
