Pros:

-Uses Embryos that will never be used for making a child, therefore avoiding the abortion issue.

-Has potential to cure all kinds of diseases.

Cons:
-People mistakenly believe that it is an abortion issue. For some reason anti-embryonic stem cell research activists don't think of what will happen to them otherwise. Embryos currently go to two places:

a womb, or the trash.

If embryonic research was funded federally the two places embryos would go are:

a womb or research.

-As long as there is a federal ban against embryonic research labs may not share equipment. This means that a company doing other research has to create a separate research environment using no equipment that was originally purchased using federal money. Materials may not even be stored in the same refrigerator as materials for a federally funded project. This means increased costs for any federally funded facility that wants to do embryonic stem cell research.

Are the people answering this question high?!
Pro:
Embryonic stem cells are the best source of stem cells as they are undifferenciated.
Cons:
Some in the "pro-life" movement hate that the cells from aborted fetuses are used in something productive. Babies are not killed just to get their stem cells.

Studies have shown that embryonic stem cells give no advantage over non embryonic stem cells and further research no further than non embryonic stems do. The research companies are currently using both embryonic and non embryonic. The only difference is that the government is picking up the tab on the non embryonic stem cells.
