I would think a "generation" would be around 12 -13 years. Beyond that the age gap becomes too apparent and things that are associated with a particular generation are unorthodox.
Think about decades for instance. Yes within these decades are several things a generation can associate to. But when we cross over into another decade (for instance the 80s to the 90s) its not an absolute transition until about 2-3 yrs into the decade.
Not sure if this makes a ton of since but hopefully you can get my point...hope this helps :)

A generation is the time from birth to first reproduction. In humans this works out to be 20-25 years on average. Humans are rather complex with more variation in their generation time than other species.
If you operate on a rule of thumb of 25 years then you will cover most of the differences between different eras in relatively modern times, so 7 generations is about 175 years.
In my family 4 generations were born in the 20th Century, so for them 25 years was about right for average generation time.

It's the average age at which people have their first child; probably about 26 in Britain, different in other places. This is because the child is then the next generation, and the difference between their age and the age of their parents is the "generation-gap"

A generation is about twenty years - five generations to the century - seventh generation, 120 - 140 years from now.
