It was a band called America. I saw them live at Newcastle city hall in 1973. They were the support band with Uriah Heep. They were very good.

great tune by America...another coup[e of good one's by them were Sister Golden Hair and Ventura Highway...I suggest buying their greatest hits album...good album for mellowing out to...don't forget the bong though...lol...cheers
