usually the original are the best but i like the recent remake of war of the worlds better than the original because of the special effects, not because of tom cruise.
sometimes all versions are good, for instance both versions of Imitation of Life are excellent.
an affair to remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr is the best version of the movie the affair, the first version had Frederic march and the last version had warren beatty.

The originals are usually the best but every once and a while a remake comes along that is better. Take for instances the eighties version of King Kong. It had a life of its own while following the original story line. Unlike the new remake of King Kong which didn't seem to have the heart the two previous movies had. The best thing about the originals Star Wars, Jaws, Friday the 13th, King Kong etc. (I am a fantasy buff) is that they draw you in and make you a part of the movie. They seem crisp and the characters aren't clean and perfect. Its like meeting a stranger and speaking with them for the first time. You just dont know what to expect.

In my opinion, King Kong was best in the original. The remakes just didn't do it justice. The Poseidon Adventure was better in the remake. I guess it depends on the movie and individual preference. Lord of the Rings was much better than the cartoons. I hope there is a remake of The Hobbit.

When you look at a film like The Italian Job, then the original was the better of the two.

I liked the remake of Dracula that had Keanu Reeves in it...but then that film has been made so many times, out of all the remakes there should be at least one better than the original.

I have always liked the original better - I've seen remakes of old movies and they just don't seem to click like the very first...

The answer is in the question. If something is original then someone has had the inspiration or put the work in to to come up with something new. A remake is nothing more than plagarism.

well in 99% of cases i would say the original is much better. however occasionally a remake comes along that outdoes the original for example oceans 11 was way better than the original.
i also preffered the remake of the count of monte cristo.

There really are some movies that should never be remade or have a sequel....Gone with the Wind, Sound of Music, all three Lord of the Rings, the list goes on....But I have to admit I would like to see them remake the first three Star Wars....
