It's a movie. Independant film... whatch it- it is pretty good. Brought back scary movies and gave a boost to independant films. So no it is not real.

Just a joke except at the box office , it cost about 25 thousnand to make and raked in at least a 140 million at the box office so it was quite a return for the money spent making it , It was totally fictional and a real stinker of a movie whew !

It is fiction. It was promoted with an ultra-realistic internet campaign that made it look real, but it is not. It looked so authentic because they weren't working from a script, but suggestions the director left for them to find.
I'm kind of glad it's fiction, aren't you? ;-)

total fiction, great scam dreamt up by some young filmakers much the same way The Ammityville Horror was years ago.

just a movie script! its not real atall but filmed as if to look like it was - with the video recorder shots being shown and everything

just a movie nothing real behind it, it was a low budget film that had everybody believing it was real but it wasn't
