OK, here goes...
The 4 versions of Stand By Me which made the UK Charts are,
1) Ben E King, 1961 and 1987. The first time around it reached no 27 and was 7 weeks in the chart. The 2nd time was a re-issue and hit the top. It stayed 11 weeks in the chart.
2) Kenny Lynch 1965 - Reaching no.39, 7 weeks in the charts.
3) John Lennon 1975 - Reaching only no.30. Also 7 weeks in the charts.
4) 4 the cause 1998 - They took their version to no.12 in this year. This US act was their only UK top 40 hit lasting 9 weeks in the charts.
These are correct up to the 16th Ed of the Guinness book of hit singles. Don't know of any others.

There have ben versions by- The Temptations, Beatles, U2, Oasis, Julian Lennon, The Righteous Brothers, The Platters, Elvis And Louis Armstrong, I Have them all and the only one that sounds new is lennon's, both John and Julian's
