Fred Savage played Kevin. I think they just ran out of good story lines as the kids got older, plus he lost some of his "cuteness."

Fred Savage, and he is still working in fact he is in the movie The Rules of Attraction with James Van Der Beek. Savage plays "A junkie named Marc". You get to see him in his underwear.

It stopped because it had run it's course. Like many shows that involve a particular era, it's novelty wears off as the years progress and the era passes.
