I have a1976 Chevy pickup. 350 with a 3-speed tranny. After driving it for a bit, I hear this noise like you would get if a small tree branch was rubbing against the fan...shick shick shick. It speeds up with the motor. It's loudest under the truck. Just had a new clutch and pressure plate, throwout bearing and flywheel surfacing last month. It doesn't make the noise when first started. Any ideas? Thanks.

IF IT DIDN'T MAKE THIS NOISE BEFORE YOU CHANGED THE CLUTCH AND TURNED THE FLYWHEEL YOU MAY HAVE TO CHANGE THE FLYWHEEL SOMETIMES THEY TAKE TOO MUCK OFF AND THE CLUTCH DISC TICKS THE FLYWHEEL BOLTS. OR CHECK YOUR DUST COVER TO SEE IF IT MIGHT BE TICKING THE FLYWHEEL TEETH IF NOT SURE TAKE THE DUST COVER OFF AND RUN IT WITHOUT THE COVER IF IT STOPS MAKING NOISE THEN LEAVE IT OFF OR GET A NEW ONE.

It sounds like a lifter is losing pressure and ticking with the speed of the engine. I have heard that a qt. of transmission oil will silence it. You can isolate it by pulling the rocker cover and loosening it and trying to readjust it.
