Yup, and ITunes. But theres a bad thing about that For example, if you take your ipod to a friends house, and plug it into their computer, and they have itunes/windows xp with either no songs or different songs than you do, then his/her songs will be transfered to your IPod. Don't buy an IPod unless you only want to blend in with the other people with IPods. IPods aren't worth your money. I have one and i wish i had never bought one.
If your thinking about 30GB's then dont bother with an Ipod.
I prefer you get a Creative Zen Vision:M
Its more sleeker, and has more compact ability than an IPod Video 30GB and cheaper as well.
It has an FM radio and may hold more Video/Pictures than IPod Video
Did i mention cheaper?

ipods work on all sorts of computers. ipods are kinda meant for them. it just d-pends what model of ipod u get. it should come with a USB cable, which plugs your ipod into the computer, so you can download music, ect onto it.
