Sport can be a hobby, can't it? Recreational sports are still sports. On top of that, cheerleading can be very demanding it terms of practice and schedule. There are cheerleading competitions, too.
What do you define as a sport? If it is something that is recognized by Olympic Committee, then the answer is no. But by this token, many activites are not recognized. But if you define sport as an activity that requires a lot of fitness and keeps you in shape - then yes, it is a sport.

It could be considered both a sport and hobby. Of course it depends on who are the participants and who are the spectators. Fun can be had by all if the person responsible for cleaning uniforms forgets the undergarments, then it can turn into run for the best seat up front and center. Warning: Bring goggles and smelling salts for the parents of cheerleaders.

As I answered someone previously when they asked is dance a sport I'll provide the same answer. If you define sport as a competition between 2 or more persons, then yes it is. However, it is not a recognized sport by Yahoo or general society.

It depends on your definition of "sport".
My definition is any game/activity/competition where there is a clear cut winner and loser AND the possibility(even remote) of death.
Car racing? Sport
BMX racing? Sport
Cheerleading? Sport
Pool/Billiards? Hobby
Poker? Hobby
my two cents

I think so... It's like one of those activities that people don't really know what to classify it under
Do you think bowling is a sport?
Some people do, others don't.
I think Cheerleading is one of those! I say it is, others may disagree.
