Good Question! I went on Matchmaker.com in 1999, and met the best guy in the world. Here we are, married and happy with four kid's, two from previous marriage of mine. You'll know when it's right, you can feel it in your heart. I just chatted with different people, then if I met someone I took my friend with me to meet them, I met two people all together and the second one is the one I married! Look out though, there are some weirdo's online!

There are many free dating sites and sites that will help you meet people. You could try Yahoo Personals, Myspace, Adult Friend Finder... I think that most of these sites are free in the most basic sense--though you might have to pay money to become what they consider a "gold member" or something like that, which just allows you to do more on the site. You could also do a search on "google" for "free dating sites".

Are you looking for a specific person? If so, try local blogs to include myspace. Ask around.
If you are looking for someone as in a relationship... there are a few sites to consider and yes FREE.

You can't but internet dating is the way to go. You'll met a few nut cases, just like the person sitting next to you in church. But $20.per month is a bargain.

try craigslist in your community, or anywhere. There is some pretty racy stuff the personals section.... all for free
