Hey Dude, I think you're right! And I can't help but think, that very soon, we will do exactly that.

To 'g' and 'ocean' - Is that your definition of : 'inspired, open, intelligent, and thoughtful'??

2006-10-22 08:26:45 · update #2

Andy - There's alot of us just waiting for that to happen. Maybe sooner than we think.

2006-10-22 08:28:16 · update #3

Michael - So your idea of intelligent is...' m ' ? I truly hope you are going to EDIT* that response.

Dane - Your notion of joining others is predicated on 'others' willing to STAND UP LIKE A MAN. We would love to see France and others agree, but that notion of yours assumes that others are awake to the problem. We have that same problem with a certain group of our citizens as well. People want it to be part of a larger group. But if these other countries don't STAND, then why, oh why, do folks like yourself seem to BLAME IT ON US. Tell me the world is not going to hell in a hand-basket when this type of mentality has affected so much of the world?

2006-10-22 08:35:31 · update #5

Kay - You said very little. We are already doing that. There's not a 'magical' solution to this problem. It's very complex and requires much more thinking.

2006-10-22 08:37:23 · update #6

Neddie - Why do you have to respond with a 'political ad'?? Seriously, I'm sure you are capable of so much more. I've read your reply over and over. There is no solution included in that reply.. am I to assume that your reply was not an answer?

2006-10-22 08:41:09 · update #7

Katie - That's a very thoughful reply. And I agree with some of it. I think the problem with many Americans, is that they don't comprehend just how advanced we really are. And, just how inadvanced other countries really are. I know, I trained other countries forces, many countries, and I have spent time overseas in other countries. Do that, and then we'll see where your opinions fall. Us military guys and gals learn this, and it's always a 'shocker' to see how far behind other countries REALLY are.

2006-10-22 08:46:32 · update #8

Charlie B - You want the TRUTH?? OK. See above reply to Katie. That's the TRUTH, sad as it may be.

2006-10-22 08:48:54 · update #9

ROBERT - That's a very well thought out reply. I agree with all of it. And much of it is being done right now, however not to the DEGREE it needs to be. The problem is in the details and the 'hows'. Getting others to STAND UP LIKE A MAN, seems to be a worldwide dilemna.

2006-10-22 09:21:40 · update #10

Dane - I'm not sure whether to call that a PACIFISTIC or DEFEATIST ATTITUDE. But if that's what you believe, then we ask you to please be quiet, while WE handle the problem.

1. Impeach Bush
2. Nationalize U.S. oil interests
3. Make a world-wide announcement that, in the name of global survival related to the absolute necessity of orderly delivery of oil to the world, and related to the potential for weapons of mass destruction arising in a fundamentalist magical-thinking culture, and related to the hopeless task of finding honorable leaders from the region with whom to negotiate with in good faith and who are not corrupt with bribes, the United States declares a state of global emergency. All foreign armies and nationals are to evacuate the region immediately and return to their homelands. Everyone must leave the region on ones own means and forsake return as citizens unless they agree to live in peace and unity with all others who chose to remain. All who chose to remain agree, by remaining, to live in peace together. All who chose to leave forfeit all they leave behind. All those who are not welcomed elsewhere in the world and who do not welcome peace in the region are to be delivered to and detained in Saudi Arabia at the King's expense and personal accountability until stability is achieved throughout the remainder of the region. A list has been made of all holy sites and houses of worship of all religions in the region. If, after 14 days, all involved factions and all people who chose to remain have not achieved an accord of social stability and peace among themselves, and, all acts of terrorism have not ceased worldwide related to these factions of the region, the United States will missile strike and destroy one holy site or house of worship per day at random until such an accord is reached.
All people who chose to remain in this region must unite as equals immediately in the absence of foreign armies. Their task is urgent and daunting. They must, within 14 days, form a union and summon the resources with which they themselves can bring an end to the violence in their lands. And, they must truly successfully facilitate an international effort to bring about a global shut-down of select terrorist organizations within 14 days.
4. Follow through on #3.
5. Then, all sit down and talk like civilized people.

You, the US, should join the international community and strive to create judicial institutions to overview "the war on terror".

Fighting Terrorism should never be bilateral- (the US and its allies vs country with terrorists in it). These breaks from the geneva conventions are wrong, and are an obstacle to joining forces with the rest of the world to solve the problem.

Perhaps bringing soldiers in to fight with terrorists and their recruits isn't the best way to go. We really need to have the Arab League watch their own backyard, And this will only happen when Arab and other Muslim countries believe in the instution that is combating and reviewing the threat from extremists.

--
The separate countries in the world are doing more than you know, to combat terrorism. The issue here, is, that the world cannot do the same while the biggest player, the US, is off on its own doing... well, doing something.
There's a naive belief that you can kill all the terrorists, or at least beat them into submission. We need to start looking beyond the symptoms and start focusing on the problem and the solution.

How many movements using terrorism as tactics have been beaten in the past by the use of military force?
There's a long history of insurgency in the Arab world and, the insurgents have always triumphed against foreign armies in the end (or, if not, they are still "insurging" to this day).

I'm beautiful open-minded and liberal with regards to social issues. But I'm additionally a hawk with regards to protecting our nation towards terrorists. I do not oppose the War on Terror, I by no means have. In truth, I desire with all of my middle that we had honestly positioned the whole thing we had into it, as a substitute than hanging it in 2d location with a purpose to assault a nation that had not anything to do with nine/eleven and did not pose an impending risk to our defense. Thanks to Bush and Cheney and their obsession with Iraq and the mismanagement of this battle, new terrorist cells are arising everywhere the sector. The terrorist coaching camps are multiplying like cockroaches in Afghanistan, Al Queda now has a loose hand in Iraq, and each week it sort of feels we listen approximately new terrorist cells forming in Europe. IF this battle have been ever approximately the females of the Middle East, you could have a factor. It wasn't, and it by no means will probably be. I might definitely again a truly battle on terror, and I desire we mount one earlier than it is too past due.

I think that we need to stop powdering the Iraqi government's proverbial behind, and give them a shove towards adulthood. I think that for the past 2 years we have been concentrating on "gaining ground" from a military standpoint, rather than vigorously preparing the Iraqi government for "flying solo" I think the U.S. should have taken up the U.N. on it's offer of Intermediary advisors, to detract from our total commitment. This thing has dragged on far too long, and so far there is no end in sight with the current strategy. Since we now know that we really had no business being there in the first place, we need to concentrate on cleaning up our mess and then getting out.
Whether that is utilizing U.N. efforts, or more intensive training for the Iraq Army/Police, SOMETHING needs to be done.

Maybe hire and train many more Ingelligence Agents around the world to collect factual information where these actual terrorist cells exist. Remember folks, the Iraqis weren't on those planes! AND maybe install a new administration who we can somewhat trust will actually TELL US THE TRUTH! Also remember that we were mostly united about going into Afghanistan, I think we would be united again if we could demolish the actual terrorists instead of a population that never attacked us.

Okay... let us remember the War on Terror is GLOBAL

1) Afghanistan: Get a "Marshall Plan" working there with NATO and Russian involvement as a means of improving the Afghan peoples living conditions & removing their reliance on Opium crops for cash. Also, vigorously search and destroy Taliban remnants.

I THINK that Afghanistan's government is sound and stable... it just needs the MEANS to continue.

Also, make it clear... politely but CLEAR to Pakistan that they'd better get off THEIR butts and do THEIR job in the border/ tribal regions.

2) Iraq: Engage in more construction / rebuilding projects, publicize them clearly in the world media. Employment gives those young men something to do OTHER than insurgency.

Disarm the militias. Work to prevent the entry of further "foreign-fighters" from Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.

To me, "partitioning" the country can only make things worse in the long run.

3) Within the UNITED STATES:

a) BUILD the fence on US-Mexican Border. Work on more coverage (discreet) on the US-Canadian Border. Surveille our Ports and Entries as vigorously as law and common-sense can permit

b) ENFORCE current Visa policy, track expired visa's, and deport those who are in violation. Via the State Department, make CLEAR to other countries (Venezuala?) that any proof (or strong hint) that another State that provides false identification, visas, etc used in terror-activities will suffer.

c) STRONG U.S. Government Information program to ensure the Muslim population is recognized as sound, patriotic, honorable. Keep them on OUR side.

4) Figure out HOW we're going to get the United Nations to function !! (I'm at a loss here. !!)

1. Turn Iraq over to an international police-keeping force.

2. Return to the use of police tactics that have been used successfully by Israel, Britain, Japan, and Italy.

3. Reestablish our position with our friends so we have open and reliable communication lines for receiving intelligence information about terrorist activities.

4. Earn back the worldwide honor and trust lost by the reckless and thoughtless Bush administration so that we actually have some influence on matters such as North Korea and Iran.

go after the terrorists... 3,000 died... nothing should stop us... with a heavy focus on al-queda... get the 9-11 report out and start going after them...

Edit:
well, we kind of half-way tried to do this in only one country, Afghanistan... so, apparently it is inspired and a new idea?

I'm sorry it's not as "inspired" as "the dudes" answer is... I guess you're looking for something more like that... HAHAHHAA

here let me try again "kill em all and let God sort them out"... sorry I was talking over your head...
