Infections from wounds... like bacterial infections that can now be cured with antibiotics... like staph.

Other diseases that killed a lot back then would be simple things like strep, scarlet fever, pneumonia, tuberculosis...

If you are referring to wounded soldiers, the big bad guy was infection. Battle field hospitals were no cleaner than a 21st century truck stop bathrooms. Many wounds were treated by amputation of the affected limb. The bottom line is, knowledge of hygiene and it's importance to healthy recovery was just not known. Many many wounded men died on both sides due to infection.

yeah ckicken pox and small pox, and their body parts all getting cut off and stuff.
