The airbag light flashing is NOT a cause to fail the MOT as they are not an obligatary item.
The common cause for the light to be flashing is the wiring under the drivers or passengers seat working loose.
A dealer will be able to diagnosis this for you by connecting a computer to the car,it should cost 1/2 to 1 hours labour.
Once the fault is rectified the lamp will extinguish itself.

Put your car in first gear, aim it at a wall, get out and place a brick on the accelerator. There must be some distance between the car and the wall, you want the vehicle to at least get to 30mph before it hits the wall. If the airbag goes off you have nothing to worry about, and you wont need an M.O.T as your car will be a write off. Problem solved.
For health and safety purposes, I would advise reporting your car stolen to the police, using a wall in a particularly remote place, and having an escape vehicle or running very fast from the scene.. As running from a crashed car is not suspicious at all.

You can safely check your connectors by disconnecting the battery to disable the airbag system to prevent inadvertent deployment. If anyone has recently worked on the vehicle requiring removal of air bag assemblies, it could be a connector simply not being seated. Always disconnect your battery fully before working on the air bag system. That means both your positive and negative leads. I would check that before I let some dealer rip me off. Beyond that, you need to address the problem or your bags might not deploy when you most need them to. Good luck.

When that light is on it means that either your Airbag or passenger Airbag is not operational. Could just be a loose wire or a fuse but you need to goto a mechanic to check it out. Your putting your or you passengers lives in harms way.

If the airbag light is flashing, you need to get it checked out - if there's a fault in it, I'd say you would definitely fail the MOT.

Sometimes sensors can give an erroneous reading without any failure. If you think everything is OK, forget the light and put a small decal or a sticker on it.

Get it checked out! It happened on my Honda Civic and I went straight to the dealers. They sorted it there and then - apparently, as has been mentioned, it was the sensor - but it is a safety issue and needs to be sorted.
Take care

Yes you can turn it off with the car key and the key holder should be in your glove department, if not it is down near the ignition start
