As a rule, try not to eat shards of glass or put any other sharp objects into your mouth. In this instance, the helmet won't really help!

When we were kids, we ate shards of glass all the time without helmets and we all lived. Parents who put their glass-shard-eating kids in helmets are just being ridiculously overprotective.
Kneepads, however, are pretty necessary.

it is VERY dangerous to eat shards of glass regardless of whether or not ur wearing a helmet. The helmet only protect ur head (or face, in some case) from external trauma it does not protect ur tummy nor does it prevent internal injury from things u ingest.
