He found my tampons and pads and would like to know what I use those for. I don't think he needs to know about periods at age 3 but I also don't want to lie to him. Advice?

Take them away and change the subject. Show him something else and make sure to put the tampons where he can't find them anymore.

If you go to his room and play with him he won't remember what he saw....fact is....he's probably already forgotten in the time it took you to write this questions and for us to put responses up to it.

OMG...WHen my son was 8, he wanted to know what condoms are. I told him that they are a special kind of underpants that big boys had to wear sometimes....
Honestly, I don't think that a 3 yo would remember this. Don't feel bad about lying. Tell him they are "special ladies banages" or something.

I know this is not an explanation, but when I was about six one of the older girls at school asked me to go home, and ask my dad mind you. what a Kotex was. So when I got home I asked him and he said to tell her it was a manhole cover. Never new what that was either but I relayed the message. She never asked me to go ask anything else. And I never questioned his answer. I wouldn't worry about it but just explain it is something that mommys use when they are older. He will probably let it go at that. Good luck.

I think the best way to broach the subject is to say that those are things that girls use at a special time each month. Leave it at that...

Just tell him they are for adults and when he is 10 you'll be happy to explain exactly what they are for. And don't worry, when he turns 10, he'll remind you that you are supposed to explain. And when he does, tell him.

I told my son that they were for grown up ladies when we use the bathroom. Its not some ridiculous story and it is not too graphic for his age.
