x = chickens
y = cows
x + y = 81 ---heads
2x + 4y = 252 --- legs
solve one equation for y
y = 81 - x
substitite into other equation
2x + 4(81 - x) = 252
2x + 324 - 4x = 252
-2x + 324 = 252
-2x = -72
x = 36
36 chickens
solve to find number of cows
y = 81 - 36
y = 45
double check # of cows and chickens with 2nd equation
2(36) + 4(45) = 252
72 + 180 = 252
252 = 252
36 chickens and 45 cows
Hope this helps!!!

there are 81 heads, if they were all chickens there would be 162 legs. But there are 90 more legs, this must mean (90/2) 45 cows and the rest (36 chickens)
check: 36 chickens 72 legs
45 cows 180 legs
total 252 legs

there are 45 cows,
there are 36 chickens.
45+36 =81 heads.
2 legs a chicken, so 36 x2 =72
4 legs a cow, so 45x4=180
72+180=252 legs.

enable Cows be X enable poultry be Y subsequently, X + Y = 80 one (Given) (Equation a million) further, 4X + 2Y = 252 (Cows have 4 legs, poultry have 2) (Equation 2) fixing those 2 equations; X + Y = 80 one or 2X + 2Y = 192...(a million) 4X + 2Y = 252...(2) 2Y is cancelled and 2X = ninety => X = 40 5 = variety of Cows putting fee of X in any equation, we get Y = 36 subsequently, cows are 40 5; poultry are 36.
