What Vdub bug said.............Just the baby oil and only let sit on head for 5 minutes to soak into the cradle cap..Then use your nail gently to scrape some of it off..........Just do that for 5 minutes and again in 2-3 days for same amount of time...Eventually it will be gone...........And yes 5 year olds will have cradle cap if not all removed when younger..It doesn't hurt anything.........time will get rid of it two with years and shampooing of hair, and using a brush as child gets older.

My doctor recommended using a pea size drop of head and shoulders and gently rubbing it on her head once a week.. This worked great. Be sure not to use baby oil (it is made up of mineral oil). Even though a lot of baby products still have this in them, it is actually not good for the skin. It might seem good short term, but it actually ends up coating the skin and drying it out in the long term. Some countries have even banned mineral oil from being used in any products because of the effect on the skin. It is just really cheap, and I think that's the reason why the U.S. has not banned it yet.

Best way to get rid of cradle cap is while washing his hair, take a wash cloth and gently scrub the patches. It may also be an infection or possibly Psoriasis. I would get that one checked out either by your pediatrician or a dermatologist.

We got rid of my son's cradle cap by giving him Advanced Ambrotose(glyconutrients). It also helped settle down his eczema. We bought it in the powder form and put it in his formula daily. His cradle cap cleared up in about a month.

If he has brown scabby sores it's not cradle cap. Take him to the doctor.

My son had the same problem I tried every oil cream everything nothing worked. The only thing that worked was Selsum Blue and it cleared after 2 days. If you do try this be extremly careful and dont get it anywhere near his eyes.

All of the above is good advice. You can also try some head and shoulders as well, just watch to not get it in his eyes. My son had the same problem and its' gone now after using dandruff shampoo.

Sounds like he has eczema on his scalp. Try a shampoo that contains zinc (Head and Shoulders, or any dandruff shampoo that is blue). If that doesn't do it try a shampoo that contains Tea Tree Oil. You might consult with a pediatric dermatologist as well.
