magicice6- competition-what you are obviously not aware of is the fact that Michael played a major role in making the Ferraris "a highly superior car"! he worked closely with the engineers/mechanics,HE would tell them what & how the car should perform like & after 2 to 3 years Ferrari made a turn around & started winning.Michael spear headed this turn around at Ferrari while other drivers just basically come in and drive only !
teamates-i believe in calling this strategy.Ferrari achieved their goal, champion driver & constructors title!there can only be one top driver per team per season!
controversy-when you're up in the stratisfereric level of a sport like Michael was there's always someone who is going to cry "foul / contreversy", when in reality it is actually "strategy".
kimi? kimi is a "drunk"! i'll bet the "farm" that he has shown up for qualifying or even a race HUNG OVER ! IN MY BOOKS KIMI IS NOT EVEN HALF THE MAN/DRIVER THAT MICHAEL IS!
peace

A fitting end to his remarkable driving career. To come back from dead last after the puncture to finish 4th was phenomenal. His never-say-die attitude never ceases to amaze me, and it's sad that we will not be seeing that on the track again. Despite all the controversies he has created, and accusations of cheating, unsportsman-like behaviour, in my opinion, he was one of the most ferocious competitors in any sport, ever. Arrogant? Yes. Aggressive? Yes. Unsportsman-like? Many say so. Cheated? Probably. Did he win? Hell yeah, and that, is what counts in F1, and he was darn good at it, and for that, he has my full respect.
Great race. Great season. Great career. Great man. A legend. I will miss him.

Well it's undoubtedly an end of an era. He established himself as a great driver but I wouldn't go so far as to call him a true genius. If there's one thing he succeeded in is that he spun a strong team tightly around him and managed to get the entire team to work in his best interest.
You can't really call him great either. Yes he's won 7 championships and beaten almost every record but to evaluate a driver's greatness you have to consider all the parameters.
Competition:
From 2000 to 2004, he won 5 championships virtually unchallenged due to a highly superior car in a sport where the driver is really at the mercy of his vehicle. When Mclaren and Renault became competitive, he found himself at the same disadvantage that other drivers have been during his dominant seasons. He was defeated by Hakkinen's Mclaren fairly, but once Mika left, so did the only worthy rival.
Teammates:
Schumi has never had to deal with an excellent driver as a teammate. Martin Brundle, JJ Lehto, Johnny Herbert, Eddie Irvine, Rubens Barrichello, and Felipe Massa couldn't come close to competing for equal victories with the same equipment because Schumi is obviously a better driver than them. This goes without mentioning the team orders issued in his favor, even at times when the championship was long from being decided. Therefore, he stacks many wins and looks amazing.
Controversy:
Obviously he's not the greatest sportsman, but even greats like Senna have been involved in controversies over the years. The Monaco incident this year really takes the cake for me. Whereas I can understand hot headedness in the final race for the championship, this incident is one that puts a dark mark on his record.
To me, I'll always believe that Schumacher decided to retire this year because he couldn't stand going head to head with Kimi next year and risk losing his superiority at Ferrari when Kimi starts challenging seriously for poles and wins. But with all the downsides, I really do believe he's an excellent driver (top 10 all time), but his era doesn't end with the greatest resonance. It's a true shame.

Yes, a true genius,
yes, the end of an era, but also,
yes, a flawed champion so he's human after all.

Definitely, I'm no fan of his, but certainly respect what he has achieved in F1.
Today was a great race for him - even though the other Driver's didn't exactly make it difficult for him!
