The 'holy war' refered to in the koran is often misenterprated. (also known as the Jihad)
The Koran teaches that the Holy war is infact the war within one's self. The fight against temptation, it is NOT advocating the use of weapon's or violence against another religion. It is the fight against the devil, who is constantly after your soul.
However, there are of course, war's that have been fought over religion the most famous being the crusades. If Jerusalem were a person I'm sure it would have a few stories to tell...But that does not make them 'holy.' There is nothing, Holy or reighteous in blood shed, torture and intolerance of another belief's. Any God or Religion that advocates that is most certainly wrong.
War is war. No matter what euphemisms you use, it will never stop being the horrific massacre that it is.

Yes there was a Holy war and it still continues today. It was not only between the Christians and the Muslims. It was the Christians and any religion that did not follow Christan religion such as Pagans "Country Dwellers". No one can make someone surrender to their religion and I wish everyone would just open there eyes and hearts and see that.
Blessed Be

Technically, WWII was a holy war, because it was about liberating people from opression. But I think your teacher is talking about the Crusades, Richard the Lionheart, Saladin, and those characters. Use a search engine. Just the above will give you more search words until you have enough. Good luck!
BTW, ALL information sources are biased. That's why you must read both sides and make up your OWN mind. Especially regarding the modern media.

There were and are many. A holy war is a crusade. There was the cusades that tried to convert all to christianity and muslims tried to covert people to islam. The true crusades existed in jerusalem. Fought over by muslims and christians. Crusades still exist all over. They are fought by christians and muslims till this day. PEACE!

There have been many wars fought over religious ideologies, but the words holy and war cannot be used together to describe the killing of one another, so there has never been a holy war.

Is there any such element as we talk? i imagine no longer. Has there ever been any such element in the previous? probable. I view this question in the framework of conception that there is a Sovereign author who's omniscient. As author of life, he might want to have the right to envision its termination besides. As ominscient, he might want to comprehend if there are present motives to terminate life that are consistent mutually with his different features, consisting of love and justice. it is interior of this framework that i visit comprehend the "wars of the LORD" pronounced in the Bible. i do no longer imagine we may be able to choose such wars adversely, because we are no longer omniscient; we do no longer have each and every of the data. notwithstanding, guy isn't God, and that i do no longer imagine any guy or team of adult males as we talk has the omniscience required to salary a "holy conflict." Nor do I evaluate any of the wars which have stemmed from the well-known human prediliction to enslave, colonize, and triumph over, to be holy. in basic terms my $0.02.
