The viaduct at Millau was designed and built by French engineers, the input of the British architect was at the end of initial design to make the bridge look better. And a very good job too, but let's not pretend that all or most of the design work was British.

Incidentally, for those driving to the South West of France, this motorway, which starts south of Paris and continues until it (almost) joins the autoroute to Spain is both very cheap. . hundreds of kilometres for nothing, and spectacular and that is without the viaduct, which is icing on the cake. It is also only sparsely used, which will appeal to any driver who has done the Paris-Lyon-Montepellier run in July or August.

The Millau Viaduct takes the A75 autoroute over the Tarn Gorge at Millau.

The maximum height of the pillars is over 300m (1000 feet).

It is most impressive from below because there is little impression of height whilst driving across it.
