Yes they are. I am an un-cooper, but I'm still kind of fun. I take barrels and glue the staves together to make Japanese-style drums. Without barrels, I wouldn't have an economical, ecological alternative method for making a wood-body drum.
So, yes, coopers enhance my fun-having abilities.
