I live in the US!
My problem is this- I plan to enter into a beauty pageant in the near future. I have passed the Preliminaries and gone to State multiple times in the past but was unable to attend, so I want to really wow the socks off the judges this year (or make them ban me) now that I can get to the city to compete.
I already have a fairly risque dress bought for the Beauty portion, and a much cuter, more flirty one for the Partywear portion. My theme in my representation of myself this year is that I am competing as myself, not your run-of-the-mill typical beauty queen wanna be.
And since I'm being myself, for the talent portion, I want to do pole dancing. No, not stripping or grinding, real tricks that you have to pratice for and strength train to do. I've already picked the outfit and pole.
Would a pole and stage I can wheel away be appropriate? There will be shorty shorts on under the skirt! I'm so proud of my dancing, but I'm afraid I might get negative reactions! Help?

By the way, here are links to the Beauty dress, Party dress, Talent dress, and pole. Since the pole and stage can be customized, I was thinking maybe getting strobes? They make it look cool when you move as you do tricks. And the price is not an object, I'll be using it long after the competition!

Oh, and the judges are actually women in their maybe 30s, they're not very old.

Please give reasons about why you chose your answer. It gets aggravating if some one says it's a stupid idea but doesn't give a good reason why it's stupid!

if you're sure it doesn't give them a bad idea go ahead with it....
but personally if i was a judge i wouldn't like it...

I've judged pageants for 20 years, many Miss America preliminaries, and I can tell you that I would be appalled at seeing a young woman doing pole dancing for her "talent." Judges want to see pretty, genuine, smart and talented. Pole dancing is simply not an appropriate talent. In fact, I don't consider it a talent at all but a "buy-in" to a Hollywood ideal of objectification of women. Regarding your formal dress, too, it is far too revealing. Your dress should be flattering to you, but encouraging the judges to notice YOU and your personality, your smile and face, rather than revealing your body or your ability to act like a trained animal.

I would say go for it. The pageant circuit has been filled with nothing but fake women with limited talents (meaning only predictable talents). Pole dancing as you have described it would be something fresh, new and unique. I'm sure everyone is tired of the same ol' girls touting the "I want to save the world" line and doing the same old predictable singing, dancing, or violin-playing routine.

Ummm... In my opinion, I don't think that would be such a good idea. You might get the reputation of being "trashy" from the judges. Do you have any other talents that might not be as risky? I am very happy that you enjoy being yourself, but you may want to reconsider. Overall, I hope the pageant goes well for you (and I absolutely LOVE the purple party dress)!

How bad do you want to win... some people may take it the wrong way... even though you sre not stripping... the pole represents "strippers"... is there another alternative that will help you express your talent... is the pole really necessary... using the pole for some shock value is that what you want then go ahead...
hope this helps...

Pole dancing is catching on as an gymnatsic sport. Try to focus on this, emphasise this apect in how you dress and the types of moves you make. Maybe use classical music as background music like they have for the ice skating or free gymnastics program in the Olympics. Above all have fun.

When I read your question, I immediately thought the answer should be "no, not unless you consider yourself to be trash." When I read your explanation as to how you actually do the dance my answer changed. It sounds great. It does not sound trashy at all. It seems as though you have practiced a good dance routine that has taken a lot of effort to perfect, so go for it.

it's great that you are being your total self in this pageant! it's great but pole dancing may be a little over the top just because of the stereotypes that come along with it...u kno what i mean? if you want to win, i would stick to a more conservative, elegant talent, but not fake...good luck! i hope i helped! :]]

I'm not sure you would get negative results because pole dancing is the new aerobic rage. I think you could do a presentation that would be quite tasteful. To be sure though, I would confer with one of the directors, just to be sure. You don't want to be taken out of the competition, this way you have time to change your routine. Best of luck to you.

if it were me, i would tone down the sex part as much as possible, instead of wearing a short skirt and other revealing clothes, try wearing a leotard or other gymnastics wear. i also like the idea of using classical music in the background.
