What we are seeing is the forsight of George Orwell coming true. The PC brigade truly are the Thought Police.

What exactly is the question?

Political correctness is often ridiculous - for example not being able to use the term 'brainstorming' to describe a session when people are proposing ideas for fear of offending epileptics (I am told we should call it a 'thought shower' now - I would like to meet the person dreamt that one up).

Politically oppressing - well yes, in countries where there are dictators - for example Pol-Pot and the man who brought us World War 2 - Hitler.

I do not see the connection????

The history of the term comes from communism and meant an adherance to the party line as dictated by Mao, Stalin etc. These days it is in reference to people who like to close down debate if it raises awkward questions about race, gender, or ethnicity. It is most favoured by parties of the left, like the Labour Party. They hold to the ideal that all are equal, and thus there is no need to even discuss the behaviour, of say, black youths on the streets of London since anything that they do is just a rebellion against the 'man' and the 'system'. So it is oppressing if you like free speech and free thinking.

It's very much both because it contradiction by what a individual that said's that was wrong, and then someone or some groups try too prevent what a person says by demanding any sort of apology, money,an Acknowledgment by what that person did.

Its like for example chating online I encounter a lot of International Groups who tend too be out of line with the political issues with the USA, that they tend bring up stuff online by harrassing me about stuff that I had nothing too do with.

One, I didn't vote for Bush.
Two, I am not in the US Millitrary because I am a Civilian, and is going get too college if you think I am a Warmonger then thats fine. If your going so low as too harrass me online about issues I have nothing too do with.

Political Correctness is an Evil Device , far more Sinister than first thought, It is insidious , and appeals to Governments and their Lackeys to gradually create a Climate of Suppression and Control , gradually controlling Free Speech , Thought and Action , A Vile and Rotten Facility , Beloved by Bullies and the Enemies of all who wish to Live and Express themselves in a Civilised Manner , It is in our Interest and in fact our Duty to Remove this Evil before it totally Destroys our Society ....

Politically oppressing, in general.

Ask Orwell. In "1984" the control of language was seen as the first step towards social control. Political correctness is stifling debate on the issues of the day by resorting to name calling - "racist, Islamaphobe, homophobe", etc.

Big Brother by George Orwell - A brilliant film, only reality will surpass his thoughts and ideas. Let's just hope it remains in the UK and USA as the rest of the world seems to be better off without it.

There's always someone there to jump up and down waving their arms in the air defending some minorities sensibilities.

I find political correctness deeply offensive.

Why does nobody jump and down waving their arms in the air to defend my sensibilities?
