Being an American Citizen means everything in the world.
You are part of the wealthiest nation on earth
with the most powerful military on earth
we are the most generous in private donations for worldwide disasters
we are the most generous in foreign aid.
we are a successful country made up of the best the world has and had to offer
you can come here with nothing but the shirt on you back and end up a millionaire.
You will have more opportunities to be any thing you chose here in this country.

Part of being American should be that their are no 'classes.' The current attempt to incite class war is having it's effects however. The constant refrain of 'greedy wall street' and the Madoff scandals and things of this nature tend to turn one against the super rich. This is unfortunate as these are the folks that give the most to charity and pay the most taxes. I don't see a 2nd class citizen. I don't recognize a second class citizen. However, regardless of the size of the bank account, if one is rude or boorish or slovenly then I might label this person a second class person. More then a few of the very rich would fall into this category. I have noticed that some of our politicians believe the rest of us are 2nd class citizens. Going to the front of the line, demanding private planes etc. It's disgusting. You can't be a 2nd class citizen because you aren't a citizen yet. Once you take the oath and get a s.s. number then you'll be a first class citizen just like the rest of us. Families like yours have made this country great. Welcome home.

Sorry, but I don't have enough time to write all the things that I can think of. As an American working overseas being an American means everything. When you learn about other countries and the restrictions that are imposed on them, from how they live to where they can go, being an American means freedom. I can not tell you how proud and happy I am to be an American. For your report, think of any news report, none of them seem to be good, and ask yourself if that's going on anywhere in the US.

There are 3 ways to become an American Citizen:
Have one of your parents already be an American citizen (it doesn't matter where you are born)
To be born on US soil (The country itself and all embassies and territories)
To live in the country, learn English, and take a citizenship test.
American citizens are tried under US. Law (based on the constitution) and in US courts. They are afforded all the freedoms garunteed in the Bill of Rights and can vote in elections if over the age of 18. Americans are afforded all protections of the US government while traveling abroad.

If you are an American Citizen, then this is a report on what you feel it means. Not what I or anyone else on here thinks.
For me, it means that I can speak out against my government without fear of being prosecuted, imprisoned or killed for it.
...it means that I have a voice in who makes decisions for me.
...it means I can worship as I choose if i so choose to worship.
...Read the Bill of Rights and use your own words on what each of your rights means to you. Scroll down on the page below where each of the first 10 ammendments is put into simple words so everyone can understand what they do.

Pick which ever one you would like to demean yourself or boost your ego with. I'm an American citizen. that's it. 2nd class citizen= red headed step child or in present times it means you are anyone that is not in congress.

It means that you are a representant of the leading democratic country in the world.
Democracy means first the right to CHOOSE: representants, opinion, do business, go where you want, religion.
As a french I say that American don´t have to be ashamed of themselves, but proud. The others countries, before criticizing the US, should have a square look at themselves.

Being an American citizen means you have the privilege to:
1) Work full-time to support millions on welfare.
2) Enjoy LESS rights than those you are working for.
3) Fight & die so that your wealthy fellow citizens can get richer.
