In the US (and perhaps clear across the world) there is a group called The Alternative Christmas, where instead of a gift that someone might not need or even want, "shares" of things such as trees (to be planted in some of the South American jungles or African areas where the existing trees are being cut down), or shares in things such as bicycles for use by health workers in Africa, cooking ovens that use solar reflectors (so wood doesn't have to be cut down to warm/bake food), wheelchairs, etc., etc., etc. This group recently moved their international headquarters to Wichita, Kansas. Just Google them to get their catalog and/or more information. These "shares" don't cost a great bit, as they are grouped together with like-minded folks to purchase the designated item. Another nice thing: The funds you designate will only go to that item, unlike other charities that put your monies into places they feel it should go. Another fact: These gifts aren't just for Christmas anymore, although they started this way. They can be given as birthday gifts, graduation gifts, anniversary gifts, etc.

When my children were little we used to have this box that said
for Jesus on it and every time they had any extra change it would go in this box. I think we started around November the first and
when the church had a Special Christmas Service we put it in
the Christmas offering to go for the needy. We also do up these
show boxes to fill up with little gifts for either for a boy or girl
then after every one has finish them they send them to a foreign
country for children who would not have a normal Christmas. And to see these little kids eyes light up is beyond what words
could express.

Well, we give when we can to our church's benevolence fund. And we also cover the cost of a plate or two at our local rescue mission for holiday dinners. We give presents for the Angel Tree and we send shoe boxes filled with needs and toys for Operation Christmas Child.
We are pretty poor ourselves, but remember that we are not as poor as some, and all of these are ways we can give to remember what Christmas is all about....Jesus and Love.

I dont usually give money. I dont know if your talking about like in those buckets that some people hold in front of stores with that bell. In that case yes, Do money. But if its charity then donate nice things that you dont use. Such as: Shoes, Pants, Bed Sheets and Pillows(clean ones). And other stuff like that. Hope this helps!

Christianity isn't about money and materialism! this is the very opposite! Please examine the words of Jesus - you'll locate he taught adversarial to materialism each and every of the time. some human beings calling themselves Christians might want to be materialistic, in basic terms as countless non-Christians are. yet they don't seem following Jesus' teachings in the journey that they are being like that. they are no longer being solid Christians. I tithe to my church, yet maximum of it is in basic terms for upkeep of the church - to pay the electric powered and water charges, and so on. We also provide money for helping the homeless and folk in want. We also tithe one Sunday in holding with month pretty for the pastor. If someone for some reason doesn't want to furnish to the pastor, then they do no longer ought to. they is completely not scorned in the journey that they not in any respect provide a dime, on any Sunday. And our pastor is a concepts from wealthy. He in difficulty-free words makes a pair thousand a year from being a pastor, and actually some the money he receives, he supplies accurate decrease back to the church. i'm particular you'll locate those church homes the position they get mad if human beings do not tithe, and also you may also locate a number of of televangelists that are in it for the money. it truly is gloomy, and they do no longer characterize Christianity. Christians do no longer position self assurance in getting below the effect of alcohol. Many (consisting of me) avoid alcohol altogether. So once back, your information is faulty. A Christian kinfolk might want to study to no longer have animosity between one yet another. yet children will be children, and if a wrestle might want to damage out or something, then the moms and dads might want to communicate over with them and prepare them extra constructive concepts. No authentic Christian might want to ever scorn all of us for no longer giving them a present at Christmas or the different time. the finished present-giving element is really no longer a Christian element. it is an earthly element. Please study extra about authentic Christianity!

I usually don't change my giving plans because of the christmas holiday. However, if you feel led to do that, then be a blessing!

Absolutely. Even though my husband and I are trying to save our small business and not receiving paychecks, we will donate to a few charities even if it means charging the donations to our credit cards.

In my opinion, you get what you give. So if you give nothing, that's what you can expect to come back.

No, well, kind of. My church collects toys for kids that won't get as much for Christmas and gives them to the kids at our Junior Chapel.

I am going to do that this year. I'm not going to ask for any presents. Children today are too caught up in material possessions. (I know I probably sound really old, but I'm only 12.)♥
