What is the engine # or ID # on a car?

I have to fill our the SR1A form for the DMV but i dont know what an engine # is???

They probably want the vin # which is located on your dashboard where it meets the windshield on the drivers side.
It is a metal plate with engraved #'s on it and it identifies the car from the factory.

It is usually stamped on the engin block,It tell'swhat type motor, where it was made and other specifcations of said motor.
