Why not? Cats can learn to leave their housemates alone. I have had cats and birds together for years with no problems. The cats still hunt birds outside, but are friendly and safe with the birds that live in the house with them.

Yes you can have cats at the same time as fish. We have 3 cats and 6 fish tanks and they do well. My advice would be is to make sure you have a secure hood on top of your aquarium for the cats might like to sit on top but also put their paws in. If they drink form the tank it is OK it won't hurt anything.

I've had 3 tanks and 3 cats at the same time and never did the cats ever bother the tank or the fish. sometimes they watched the fish but they got bored easily. Even when I have a open tank with 3 large goldfish in it , no problems. But every animal is different so I say do trail and error and see what works for you and your pets.

I think a fish tank is a wonderful entertainment for your cat. As long as the cat get INTO it by securing the cover tightly and it is heavy enough so the cat can't knock it over then there is no reason to keep the fish and cats in separate rooms.

I've had cats with dogs, (They get along after a brief "who's the boss encounter") cats with birds, (A cockatoo with attitude and a beak to go with it. Cat got the message.) and cats with the occasional 'Ol lady. (Cat always one that one! It was cheaper.) Never had cats with fish. The poor fish can't defend itself. And even if the cat can't get at it, the fish don't know that! That has to be a real panic for the fish, although I'm sure the cat likes the show. (I have a feather, tied to some string, on the end of a fishing pole. That's how I entertain the cat.)

I have 2 cats and 4 aquariums set up, a 50 gal with fish, a 33 gal with hermit crabs, a 10 gal with fire bellied toads, and a 44 gal with a snake. The only thing I've noticed with my cats is they like to drink the water in the filter. We call the tanks cat tv, they love to watch the tank pets! Just make sure you have a good secure lid to keep the cat out!

I have Fish tanks for a total of 175 gallons, and one very old cat. The smallest of my fish tanks is set low so that the cat can watch em and she loves "Her fish". I have it stocked with spunky tiger barbs and the cat watches em for hours. As long as the tank has a tight lid and the cat cant knock it over, i wouldnt worry.

My aunt has goldfish and two cats and her cats don't botter the fish at all. They will sit in front of the tank and watch the fish. She calls it cat-tv. It fine to have both, she has for years and years and never has any of her cats got into the tank.
