to convert a fraction into a decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator and do long division until you get a remainer of zero:

let's say you're converting 3/4 into a decimal.

Thus you are dividing 4 into 3, since this isn't possible add a 0 and place a decimal into your answer. Thus 30/4 = 7 with a remainder of 2. Add a 0 and divide again. 20/4 = 5.

Therefore, your decimal is 0.75

To convert a decimal into a percent, multiply the decimal by 100.

Thus, 0.75 = 75%

Hope this helps

To convert a fraction to a decimal

Divide the numerator by the denominator

Example

3/4 = 0.75

1/5 = 0.2

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

To convert the decimal to percent

Multiply the decimal by 100

0.75 x 100 = 75 %

To convert Percent to decimal

Divide the percent by 100

75 ÷ 100 = 0.75

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The fraction

Place the 75 percent over 100 and simplify

75/100 = 3/4

25 divides into 75, 3 times and 25 divides into 100, 4 times . = 3/4

75/100 = 3/4

use long division until it starts to repeat (once you get a 0, it will repeat):

For example:

12/2:

12=6•2+0, therefore the answer is 6.

12/24=1/2:

1=0•2+1
1=5•[(0.1)•2]+0, therefore the answer is 0.5

5/4:
5=1•4+1
1=2•(0.1•4)+0.2
0.2=5•(0.01•4)+0, therefore by putting the numbers to the right of the "=" together (with the appropriate decimal point), we get 5/4=1.25

The tricky part is when you are dealing with something like (1/3,1/7,1/11, . . .):

50/7=7•7+1 =====> 50/7=7.x
1=1•(0.1•7)+0.3 ======>50/7=7.1x
0.3=4•(0.01•7)+0.02 ====>50/7=7.14x
0.02=2•(0.001•7)+0.006 ====>50/7=7.142x
0.008=5•(0.0001•7)+0.0004 ====>50/7=7.1428x
0.0004=5•(0.00001•7)+0.00005 ====>50/7=7.14285x
0.00005= 7•(0.000001•7)+0.000001 ====> 50/7=7.142857x

But now we are repeating again, so we can just start putting the 142857 on the end and get:
50/7=7.142857142857142857 . . . or 7.{142857} where the stuff in the {} can be written with one large line over it.

Divide the numerator (top number) by the denominator (bottom number). Put a decimal point right after the denominator, and keep adding zeros. You can keep doing this until it either divides out evenly, you notice a repeating number pattern (2/3 will keep showing .66666666666666666666666666666) or until you've gone as far as you think you need to.

take the numerator divided by the denominator and move to the decimal point to right right 2 times to get a percent.

The earlier answer is correct. Do the long division.

To get a percentage, multiply the result by 100.

PS I see that JSAM came back and answered the second part of your question. Good answer.

Here is help:
8/3. So u divide 8 into 3. It would have a remainder, so you do this.

2.6
3/8.00
- 6
20

So you round six to the nearest number so the answer is: 2.69
