So many people seem to say that they are gay or bi these days. Has the number of experimenters increased, or are more people just comfortable to come out of the closet? Maybe there isn't even a closet anymore? For teens, though, isn't it sort of the new thing to be bisexual??

I think it's just easier for people to be themselves. The closet is kind of disappearing. I came out less than a week ago to my parents and they are very accepting of it, they just want me to be happy. And in the end, I think that's all any parent wants for their child is to be happy and to find someone they truely love and connect with. I don't think it's "trendy" I just think people are becoming more open minded about sexuality in today's society.

Trendy???? Not a word I would associate with homosexuality. There have been no studies that I am aware of as to the increase or decrease in the percentage of the population that is homosexual..

Factors that might influence such a thing (keeping in mind this is strictly a hypothesis) might be
-overpopulation making it a moral imperative to cease breeding
-unbalanced population having insufficient numbers of opposite sex partners (even if this was the case there would still be a percentage of homosexuals as it is 10percent in rural and unpopulated area and found naturally in all species.)
-lack of social significance associated with homosexuality or elevated social status (there have been instances of homosexuals being honored and considered above heterosexuals for having both souls, male and female in some tribal histories)

As long as there are bigots and homophobes there will be closets for some.

Your superficial approach to this subject actually makes me wonder if you are a mother. The new thing? Sorry but there has been variety in sexuality for as long as there has been sexuality. It is normal for there to be some experimentation and discovery when reaching an age of majority... perhaps it would be less confusing if you did not have to label everyone.

I don't think it is "trendy" to be gay, but I do think that alot of people feel more comfortable to come out now than they did in the 1980s and early 90s. In some schools, being bi is trendy among teens. Though, honestly, I don't know or understand why. It certainly wasn't at my school, or I would have been out freshman year of high school, not freshman year of college.

Tell me how it's trendy when people threaten to kill you in the parking lot. No matter how mainstream it seems on TV, much of this country is still very homophobic. If someone believes differently, all they need do is look at recent elections where anti-gay marriage amendments are passing left and right

I think it is the curiosity that stands out with the teens this days, though many would say they are bi- but it doesn't necessarily means they are really bi but only experimenting the lifestyle of being bi- or just the word itself.

I am not againts gays/lesbians, but yes it seems that there are more of them nowadays.

I don't think it's trendy. It is just more socially acceptable to come out of the closet. It is a time of change, thank goodness. The more we, as gays, are in the spotlight the more st8s get used to being around it.

We're just coming out of the closet more and more everyday and so you see it talked about much more. As for teens, everybody experiments and they might just be doing that. If your not gay your not gay and for those just trying it out, they will find themselves one day. What I love most is that the kids of today are going to one day be in charge of our world and they are being raised with either two mommies or two daddies. They are much more open minded. Heterosexual marriages are becoming extinct and we will be majority in the future in marriages...I see more homosexual marriages working out today versus heterosexual and that's because the main brain of a heterosexual man is in his pants...

1. According to Kinsey, and many sex researchers after him. most of us are some level of bi, although most have strong preference either way. If that wasn't true straight men in prison couldn't avail themselves of the other option, they would be physically incapable.
2. Anthropologically, acceptance of homosexuality has been the norm rather than the exception in upwards of 70% of human societies, the exceptions being those influenced by the Old Testament.
3. Since current understanding of human sexuality indicates that our sexual preferences are determined before puberty and we discover rather than choose them, it makes sense, in our more liberal culture, that teens would feel more free to explore who they actually are, as, at least in my opinion, they should.

As a gay person, I have always noticed there is a difference between the terms "acceptance," "tolerance" and "approval."
I think gay people have been accepted, and certainly tolerated over the years, but the approval factor has yet to be realized.

i think it might be 'trendy' to have homosexual friends, but it certainly isn't 'trendy' to be homosexual. Compared to 30-40 years ago, yes...I think more people are coming out of the closet...especially the bisexuals.
