Starting from scratch: say I have a picture taken at one of those booths, then I want to have that picture posted on a specific website (travel log or whatever), how do I proceed? I am really new at this, so give me the basics and please don't skip steps please.

get a http://photobucket.com account. upload the picture. Then check the box next to the picture, scroll down and click generate HTML and IMG code.

There are many ways to insert images in web page. First is to use an HTML editor like "Front Page" for windows. You can user any other editor and insert images at appropriate place.
You can also edit your web page by clicking left mouse button and select 'view source'. The notepad window will open and you will see the html code. Find the text after which you want to insert image and insert the following code:

Here you will need to create a folder 'Images' in the directory in which you have your webpage and save the images in that folder. Also, edit the name in the above code to the name of the image file you want to insert e.g. "Images/abc.gif" (or jpg, bmp etc) You can insert as many images as you like by just inserting and editing the 'src' to the file name of picture file. Also change width and height according to your choice.
