It's research with stem cells. Stem cells being the beginning of cells that haven't yet decided what kind of cell it will be when it grows up.

It is a field of research which involves taking a 'stem cell' (which by the way a fetus has only one, but an adult may donate hundreds and be unharmed,m so its not a moral issue) and genetically modifying it to grow into any part of the body needed. It can also be used to grow another person with the same characteristics as the donor (basically a clone). My favorite use is to grow meat, not any animal, just growing meat in a petry dish. Stem cell Research is going to change median forever, growing new skin, brain cells, heart and any organ with out an organ donor.

Stem cell research is a form of genetic engineering.

It involves targeting diseased cell's (for example, cancerous ones) seeking them out and destroying them. It has been considered a break through in the fight against cancer, however cancerous cells are so similar to our own common red blood cells, that the technique has yet to be perfected.

Hence the reason why research is still continuing into how to perfect this form of genetic engineering.

scientific research involving the human stem cells ,or cells that have the ability to grow into any type of cells in the body ,these would be used in transplants and other important operations

"Stem cells in humans are primal undifferentiated cells that retain the ability to produce an identical copy of themselves when they divide (clone) and differentiate into other cell types. Stem cells have the ability to act as a repair system for the body, because they can divide and differentiate, replenishing other cells as long as the host organism is alive."
