It actually depends on the bitrate of the songs. I am assuming you plan to use MP3s. I am assuming your MP3s will be in 128kbps format, so a 3 minute song will be just under 3 megabytes in size. Then you can fit 512/3 = ~170 songs. However, I don't know too many songs that are just 3 minutes long, and not all of your songs will be 128kbps in bitrate. I think some of your songs may be in 160kbps or 192kbps, maybe even 256kbps bitrates. This bitrate figure simply means that for each second of the song, the song will be that big in size (128 kilobits per second -> 16 kilobytes per second -> 960 Kilobytes per minute.)
Typically, the higher the bitrate, the better the quality of the music. So let's assume your songs are all 4.5 minutes and 192kbps in bitrate. Each song would be 6480 kilobytes in size / 1024 kilobytes per megabyte = 6.33 megabytes each. Your card will be able to hold 512 / 6.33 = about 81 of these songs. Of course, not all your songs will be this long, and not all of your songs will have 192 kbps bitrate quality.
It all depends on the length and bitrate of each of your songs. 100 is a safe estimate.

it depends on the bit rate of your songs if it is 128 or 192 or even 256 Kbits
in normal case a 128 bit and 4 minute song is approximately 4 Megabytes .

It's not just the length of the song, it's the format (mp3, wma, etc.) and the size. Also, what the card says isn't necessarily actually what fits on there. Those are only estimates. I've found wma files are usually smaller and on my mp3 player you can fit twice as many wma files as mp3's. Good luck!

properly in case you assume each and each mp3 music is probable between 3 to 4 mb each and each, with a 512mb card you will possibly be able to desire to probable carry around 146 songs yet thats a coarse wager. with a million gig of memory, your lookin at around 285... besides the indisputable fact that it relies upon on the dimensions/length of your songs

A songs size depends on it's length and it's amount of bass in the song. So usually, heavy metal songs will be bigger in space, rap is usually pretty light, and orchestras are very small compaired to their length.
