Put this question in Politics also, it is very good! My philosophy on your question is: who was the "thinker" who created the formula, that lead us to the peril the World is in today? Well, my take on your question is: YOU! All of the American Citizens, you see why, well when these scientists defected under Hitlers' domination, the US took them in, and you developed the Atomic Age! The first example being Hiroshima! So - do you have an understanding now of the meaning? I hope so, because an example closer to home is your President, he didn't think things thru, and now he is back tracking, your Nation is in disarray, your crime rate has increased 3 folds in less than 1/2 a decade! Anti-Americanism is throughout the world, because of your President. You, as a citizen, must take part of the responsibility, your Nation elected him. Now you have taken an "apparent stable world in peril"!

A true critical thinker may well question the false foundations of an apparent stable world.
Our world is largely held together by assumptions and held beliefs with facts thrown here and there.

It means that when you dare to think and question things, then nothing is stable. Nothing is absolutely true or accurate. There is an element of doubt and you are no longer secure. The world is more safe when questions aren't asked & you just accept what is. It's scary to acknowledge that things may not be as they seem.

It means that thought is our only hope of avoiding the entropy which naturally occurs in an unchanging, stable system. It is only thought that allows us to add energy to our social system and defeat entropy.
Peril is fear and thinking is the only way to approach it and overcome it.

When one thinks, there will be some sort of resolution, not all of them good, the collective of negativity has brought our world where it is today.
